The Italians call the Mille Miglia “La Corsa piu bella del Mondo” – the most
beautiful race in the world.

Even this does not describe the atmosphere at the event itself.  We think of it as a party.
A party one thousand miles long and lasting five days.

This is a comfortable driving holiday for the car enthusiast, the motor sport enthusiast
and the mountain scenery lover, with plenty of interest for the  passengers who prefer not
to drive.

The trip is designed for classic cars with a cruising speed of 60 mph, but older or more
modern cars are very welcome.  The maximum mileage in a single day is 235 miles, most
days are less than 200 miles.  Whilst all cars may drive in a convoy, if preferred each car
can choose its own route.

Most days we travel on side roads or single carriageways, but a motorway alternative
is often available for those in a hurry.  There is no competitive element, just a pleasant
drive through the French, Swiss and Italian countryside.

We do take in a few mountain passes, but again the alternative of tunnels is usually
available for those who prefer to avoid the hairpin bends.  We hope to drive the
Stelvio Pass on the way home, the later dates this year mean that it may be possible.

“The best drivers road in the world”

according to Top Gear, but if it is closed we will  use a lower,  nearby, pass or two.

The hotels are mainly superior 3* or 4*, dinner together on  two nights and freedom
to choose on others.
